Prometheus class Battlecruiser (VAN)

The Prometheus class was Earth's first attempt at making a Capital class of ship in the wake of the lighter Cruiser ships coming into service. As a cleen sheet design, two were submitted to the Naval Design Bureau; One would eventually become the Earth class of Battleship, and the other would turn into the Prometheus class. However, problems not seen during the design phase surfaced once they were placed into service, and only 4 of the original order of 10 were completed. These ships were the first to incorperate integrated Hanger bays for fighters, however these were smaller than proposed, and were only put in as a last minute item. The ship in general is longer than all current cruisers, however it is slightly narrower, leading to a somewhat cramped interior and a feeling of crammed in machinery. After an ambitious project in 2185-2190, these ships were modified and reentered service as the Andromeda class Heavy Cruisers, which was a role they were well suited for.
