Susa (Elam)

City-State Trait: You can build the Ziggurat Unique Improvement. Cities with a Granary get +1 Food.

City-State Type: Industrial (Consular with CIVITAS City-States Expanded)

History:
Susa is founded around 4000 BC. AD on a crossing point that connects the Tiger Valley to the Iranian plateau, in a region that then participates in the emergence of the state and the first cities, a major phenomenon in human history of which Suse is one of the main witnesses. It soon becomes an important center, situated at the crossroads of Mesopotamian and Iranian plateau cultures, albeit alternating phases of decline and phases of expansion, which clearly reflect cultural and political changes between cultures of the plain and the plateau. From the 3rd millennium BC BC, the south-west of Iran sees the emergence of a cultural and political entity, Elam, of which Susa becomes one of the main cities, passing permanently under its rule from around 2000 BC. It was during the following centuries one of the capitals Elamites, experiencing a strong growth and being embellished by the sovereigns of this State. When it disappears in the sixth century BC. AD, it is integrated into the Achaemenid empire which quickly becomes a royal residence, with the construction of the imposing palace of Darius I where meet the artistic and architectural influences from the various regions dominated by the " King of Kings ". After the collapse of the Achaemenid empire in the second half of the fourth century BC J. - C., Susa is relegated to the rank of provincial city of the empires which dominate it (Seleucides, Parthes, Sassanides), remaining an important city before experiencing a decline during late Antiquity. After the Muslim conquest in the 640s, Susa experienced a revival, and probably reached its maximum extension phase under the Abbasids in the 9th - 10th centuries. It declines again from the fourteenth century to be probably deserted the next century. The site is repopulated only from the middle of the 20th century.

Compatible with Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.
Susa city in the persian city list is replaced by Persepolis, and Parsa is replaced by Dariushkabir.
