i have written a large answer but it was more than 1000 signs, not acceptetd XD.
In short: we can find for Anteans, for Sclavenians and for Venedians good reasons but even for Alans.
In Vanilla i like to play most either Alans or Anteans, Especially general Lech starting in Leopolis is a nice idea of CA or whoever ... even if it is long time before the legend of "Lech", but hey who knows? Sometimes a narration lasts for more than thousand or 2 thousand years. ;)
I think the faction farming bonus from Venedians fits Poland more though, which is why I find it the better choice. Historically it's the east Slavs that get that nomadic bonus.
Belz is western Ukraine. Poland took control of it for nearly 400 years, but it was still dominantly Ruthenian or what is Ukrainian nowadays. Although we can say that it could work as it is close enough to Krakow, I guess.
Name wise, Sclavenian is closer to an endonym, but Venedi or Wend is an exonym. To many neighbors of Slavs, all Slavs are "Wends". Even Finns call Russians Venemaa.
