"Assault Weapon" is a political buzzword generally used by advocates of firearm bans and regulations, which I'm sure you know already.
Here's a wikipedia article that describes what an "Assault Rifle" actually is,
the origin of the term, and its distinction from the term "Assault Weapon"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifle#Origin_of_term
Assault is an Action. it's like those people that call it a 'Clip' instead of a Magazine.
Or those whom call it Cement instead of Concrete.
I am not making fun and/or insulting you , i am just stating that the wording is incorrect.
Assault is an ACTION , not a name.
