Description
“Dying is EASY! Living’s the hard part.” So goes the motto of the enigmatic space faring race that has come to be known only as “Oblivion”. For the longest time this race was among the most difficult to understand. In every battle they would destroy themselves when attempting to inflict damage to or destroy their opponents in combat. With very few exceptions, their ships would meet with a fiery explosive end during combat. Not from the actions of their enemies, but by their own efforts.
After the first few conflicts, it was speculated that they were either facing an advance scout fleet of automated drones, or they were the result of some bizarre punishment ritual by shamed exiles in an desperate attempt to redeem themselves. However both assumptions are far from the truth. Their bodies are made of living flame. Their fiery bodies have the natural ability to make any physical substance explode. By heating up the atoms of any mater they come into physical contact with, they can excite its molecular bonds to the point that they separate with tremendous explosive energy.
Apparently they are able to survive such explosions, even though their ships cannot. It is unknown how or even if they are able to return to their place of origin after such actions though. No one has been able to locate any planet which shows any resemblance of habitation or civilization that could reveal information about their culture (assuming that they even have one). But due to their very physiology, one might observe a volcanic or molten primordial world fully populated with them and never even realize it.
At one point in time, eons ago they were part of a huge sub-galactic sized force known only as “The Armada”. A genocidal swarm of countless ships made up of literally thousands of different alien races which moved together like a thick cloud of death that destroyed and absorbed everything in its path. It is believed that the alien species that created the Sentinels were also a part of the armada or was in some way related to it. What ultimately happened to the armada and its various members is still unknown.
