Here's my model overhaul of the Desert Rangers infantry, modeled after the promotional artwork and iconic armor of course. It's built from the ground up with love. I've also included a number of Ranger portraits to match their new appearance.

Did you see the new modding resource posted in the OWB DIscord? It tells you how to update custom models to 2.0.

@wtchappel This mod in particular is designed to highlight the Rangers as a special faction with a unique infantry appearance, mostly so that they look cool, and appear visually distinct from the NCR and other factions they fight alongside. If at all possible, this mod will restore that visual distinction when it figures out how to.

Within the canon lore, the Desert Rangers are a part of the NCR that specifically utilizes this armor alone, for all we know. The NCR themselves also utilize this specific armor as well (although they also have a different mass produced model, as well), and other factions may as well, in capacities that fit what you could find in prewar riot police and cavalry unit stockpiles.

Within the lore of Old World Blues, that is your decision. But the Desert Rangers are not a military outfit that looks like farmers or unarmored wastelanders, by any stretch.

@Roure The Desert Rangers still have your models as special forces models, the wastelander model is only being used for regular infantry. Not all of the Desert Rangers are literally special forces troops, and it gets confusing if they use the same model between their special forces and regular infantry.

Long term we plan to give regular Desert Rangers troops something of a mercenary appearance; their current appearance is just a stepping stone until that time. Its on our to-do list.

So in a word, y'all, it seems the Desert Rangers don't have a unique visual culture in the mod right now. I'll see if it's possible to jimmy any solution at all sometimes soon.

@AznMagicalGamer this is apparently not a side effect of my mod. the team at OWB decided to give Rangers generic culture, which means they have the baseline unit, not their own special one. that may be outside my coding expertise.

Does this work with multiplayer if you are joining a game with the mod disabled for others?
Rory Starr  [author] 6 Sep, 2019 @ 9:10pm
Hm, I'll see about updating it.

@AznMagicalGamer Yeah those models are annoying but on the brightside the special forces units do have a ranger model now.
