Communitas Map

Description
This map creates several continents and numerous offshore islands, with realistic climate and many advanced features. The goal is a middle ground between aesthetic realism and gameplay balance.
  • Islands reward naval exploration.
  • Ocean rifts make Astronomy useful.
  • Lakes are more useful.
  • Mountains affect rain and snow.
  • Natural wonders appear at good spots.
  • Rivers flow through lakes into oceans.
  • Can be played in multiplayer (see below).
  • Game setup options adjust basic settings.
  • More settings at the top of the map file provide extensive customization.
  • The normal Continents-style option balances the two parts of the world.
  • The Terra-style custom map option creates more Earthlike old and new worlds.

- Installation -

This map is compatible with BNW and GNK.

To play the map normally:
1. Click Subscribe above.
2. Activate the map in the ingame Mods list, then click Next.
3. Choose 'Communitas' from the game setup map list that follows.

If you wish to use the map without mods, copy the Communitas.lua file from the mod folder (1) to the assets folder (2), then select and play it like a normal map.
1: \Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Communitas Map\Communitas.lua
2: \Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\Maps\Communitas.lua

If you want to play the map in multiplayer with friends, everyone needs to copy the map to the Assets location (above), then follow these steps:

1. Start the game together.
2. Host saves the game.
3. Everyone exits to the main menu.
4. Host restarts the game by loading the save file.
5. Friends rejoin the host.

This method worked for my friends and I. (Reloading works around a problem with Civ's random number generator creating different results for different people. Everyone plays the host's version.)

I like this script, but it places way too little hills in Desert terrains.
Worst maps ever.

Don't know if it's something wrong on my end or the mods, but it doesn't show up on my mods list.

And hey, I'm currently playing the most awesome map script from Communitas. Is there any way I can save the map or tell it to somehow produce the same script some other time? Is there a generation number? Help appreciated. Thank you all!

Thalassicus, on behalf of the community I thank you for the effort you've put in to this. And yes, I still use this map every time when playing. It is the perfect representation of what I want. Basically there is some scripting for strategic islands between the 2 large continents, having 2 larger portions each, enabling civ's to grow and conquer locally before entering the international stage. Personally, I've reduced my rifts from wide (to try ensure I discovered everyone first by getting caravels early), to narrow. I found this enabled better continent generation for whatever reason. Anyways, love it. Thanks mate. I hope you're having a good year so far

Tony, you are correct about the rifts.

They ensure deep oceans like the Atlantic and Pacific which require caravels to cross. They attempt to follow the boundaries between continents created by the normal map generator.

The map generation steps are:
1. Continents created.
2. Islands created.
3. Rifts created.

The vanilla steps (#1 and #2) sometimes create impassable oceans, but the Rifts ensure you always have an "Age of Exploration" upon discovering astronomy.
