Kraken Drive Mk20

Description
EXPANSION FREE VERSION NOW AVAILABLE.
A powerful engine which utilizes the Phantom Forces™ generated by compressed landing gear to create thrust. The landing gear are pushed against a metal tube, disconnected from the main craft in order to enable physical contact, which is known to be impossible between two parts of the same vessel. The Phantom Forces™ generated by the landing gear, said to come from the Kraken's own realm, propels the Kraken Drive™ forward without the need for fuel, allowing fast and somewhat safe travel across the Kerbol system.

Instructions for use:

1. Press 2 to decouple the Central Warp Core™, activating the drive. Pressing 2 while the drive is already active will retract or extend the landing gear.

2. Press 1 activate the Advanced Grabbing Unit, containing the Central Warp Core™ and storing it for time-warp. Press 1 again to reactivate the drive.

3. The Kraken Drive™ has two modes: fast and slow. Slow mode occurs during use close to the surface of a planetary body, and causes the craft to hover gently in mid-air. Fast mode occurs when the drive is used in space, high above a planet, or when the drive is disturbed or jostled suddenly during use. Fast mode accelerates the craft to ludicrous speeds, which, while convenient for interplanetary travel, is extremely dangerous within an atmosphere and should never be used in such a circumstance. In order to prevent rapid unplanned disassembly, avoiding turning the drive on and off repeatedly (Which will void the warranty), and use a rocket for atmospheric ascent. When falling towards the surface of a planet or moon, the Kraken Drive™ has been known to switch from fast to slow mode, stopping the vehicle in its tracks like a space-time anchor and allowing for a safe landing. This effect should not be relied upon.

4. The Kraken Drive™ comes with one poorly understood flaw (The rest are well understood): the drive appears to only function within a certain "bubble" around each planetary body. If the engine is activated outside this invisible bubble, it will permanently cease to function. There are many theories as to why this happens, but the most likely widely accepted explanation states that because the Deep Space Kraken is a primarily gravitational being, it requires proximity to a planetary body in order to be summoned through the dimensional link created by a Kraken Drive™. If the drive is used under the wrong conditions, its dimensional link will be severed, rendering it useless.

5. The Kraken Drive™ works as of KSP 1.7.0.

6. Note: this is not a complete craft, and must be built into a functional vehicle. Because of the chaotic nature of the Deep Space Kraken, strong reaction wheels are recommended. Try https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1714658527 for an example ship.

7. Also note: it is mentioned above that turning the Kraken Drive™ on and off repeatedly will void the warranty. In fact, turning the drive on AT ALL will void the warranty.

8. Also also note: this craft requires Making History. Try https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1714647807 for expansion free fun.

Don't put multiple together. I don't remember exactly what would happen, if anything, but it does not make the ship go faster.

Thank you, this is the stuff for which I love the Kerbal Community. Keep being this!

I put mine (no expansion) in a Cargo Bay, which protects it from any damage and makes the rocket look better, also adding some space. I wonder how the Drive would work if there were multiple?

When it stops working get your kerbal out and fix the wheels problem found!

I got it working in the atmosphere. Throttle up to 50 and than decouple with engine still on so it pushes you while you turn on the kraken drive. Enjoy https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1745135447

@towerdefence661 He was probably referencing Danny2462's phantom force glitch in kerbal space program. Also the ROBLOX game phantom forces has no copyright OR trademark; AND they are entirely different!

Dr. Technocracy, what'd you expect? It's a physics-based engine. It's not gonna work always. Maybe. I've never tried it.
