Silencing Shroud

Description
This faction is based off the Shroud faction from Grey Goo. If you've seen, heard of, or played that game and that faction, you'll see similarities between them.

A few similarities are that both factions want to destroy everything, and both factions... want to destroy anything in their path. So, they both want to destroy.

If you choose to battle this faction, and yes they are playable, do not charge directly at them, since they will charge at and destroy you. If you have a massive flagship with no support, your most likely going to be destroyed. Unless you have some form of overpowered indestructible warship... which nobody wants to create because those are a waste of time as they become boring way too quickly.

Now, this faction has blocks that are half the size of a normal block. That means that they can be destroyed very quickly, but their weapons are very powerful, and every single block they have (besides their core) regenerates very quickly (0.2 seconds or less.) That does not mean they'll regenerate while they're being shot at, so try to constantly damage them until their core dies.

What I've noticed:
- The short ranged ships of this faction will charge at opponents of a similar power level, and they will usually stay away from tougher enemies until allies arrive. Once allies arrive, they will freely charge at anything, no matter its power.
- Long ranged ships will stay behind when dealing with powerful enemies, shelling them from a distance. Weaker enemies may be charged at.
- (I don't know why they charge at things, they don't have any melee blocks!)
- They don't seem to have a chosen target to prioritize; they just target whatever is closest to them.

Attack Pattern Differences between them and the Torrent Skyflood Armada:
I have a faction of a similar power to this one called the Torrent Skyflood Armada.
The AI flags (the various words used to define AI for a faction) of the Silencing Shroud are an exact duplication of the Skyflood Armada. Despite this, they have different attack and defense patterns.
- The Skyflood Armada ships will charge at enemies relentlessly, no matter their power, strength, or damage output.
- They are overprotective of their stations and factory ships, as they will attempt to kill anything that moves near or towards them.
- The Skyflood Armada is not cautious, but they try to be aware of what they are attempting to shoot through.

- The Silencing Shroud ships however, will move cautiously toward something, if that something has high damage output, and if they (the Shroud) only have a small number of ships.
- They only protect their stations and factory ships if something more powerful than it moves to attack it.
- The Silencing Shroud will shoot through asteroids (depending on their size) and debris if their target happens to be somewhat behind the asteroid/debris.

Both factions will not prioritize enemies based on their power level, but instead, they will target enemies based on the amount of damage they can do. That is what I have noticed so far from both factions.

I hope you enjoy this faction, as well as the Skyflood Armada. Good day.

Continued:

This faction made me realize that if there was to be a "ReAssembly 2" that the game needs some means to better limit fleet size -be it by total P, the cost to recruit being not simply a one time but every X length of time, or that you have a pilot rank that determines your maximum fleet size (and may be based on survival time vs number of deaths or the likes).

It is a shame that we need OP factions to actually counterbalance the exploitable system as it stands.

While I had mentioned issues playing as the faction, I also hate to know that the game is coded so jank that it makes trying to fix things rage inducing. I recall the last time years back I tried and it kept trying to change values I had set that were within what default factions had.

It has been two-three years since this was posted; I hope this isn't too past the time.

I tired playing this faction and ended up encountering the buggy nature of this game to an extend I wasn't previously aware. I got killed for the first time, and since then none of my weapons will fire anymore. Doesn't matter if I entirely redesign the ship or even try a different build. And yet, somehow, the ships work in test mode and none of the faction ships have any issues. It broke and it won't fix even if I quite out and back into the file -it's saved as if it is now an attribute of the file.

I also had noticed a frame/structure/hull part that was "free" in the upgrades, but still needed to be unlocked I remain uncertain if that glitched it out. Because of its peculiar R storage method, I'm not fond of working with it. Editing the colors makes things weird too.

The Cascade's plasma bolts tend to fly into an object and then bounce off its walls over and over, meaning the Cascade acts more like an infector than a ricochet gun.
