Hiroyoshi Tenzan IS still alive and choppin’ (hisssss) but the hisses are less frequent than they’ve been at any other point in Tenzan’s legendary career. After not wrestling in a singles match in 2017, Tenzan was able to break the streak with ONE singles match this year: a win over Katsuya Kitamura during the youngster’s Seven-Match Trial Series.

Otherwise, Tenzan participated in his eight consecutive World Tag League alongside TenKoji partner Satoshi Kojima. The duo scored 10 points but finished fourth from last overall. On the plus side for Tenzan, he was protected throughout as Kojima took a majority of the team’s falls. Overall, Tenzan finished +10 in fall differential. But, this is in ways a backhanded accomplishment. Tenzan doesn’t take falls because he literally can’t. Kojima is an ageless wonder who wrestles the same at age 48 as he did at 38. Tenzan, though, looks every bit of 47 years old and let’s face it he wasn’t the most athletic or agile 30 year old either. Tenzan doesn’t take finishers mostly because… he can’t and thus Tenzan is the de-facto “protected” member of the TenKoji team.
