Although I have seen systems that use ladders + fans (I don't think that'll work for uphill sections)
You'll need to add a bunch of fans to any uphill sections (especially if using more than one upslope connected together) -it also helps to have a straight section just before it to build some extra speed.

yeah fans are seriously overpriced.
I kept the size down to 5 wide/6 high, so when building underground -excavators could be used to tunnel while leaving a walkable gap on each side for building :)
