Description
Once I’ve picked a weapon to make a finish for I often come up with several ideas then work up the strongest one. I decided to come back and work up one of the other ideas I had for it: the squid! Tentacles are great to flow around a given weapon, you can place them where you want.
Initially I noticed the round component on the reverse and thought it looked like the perfect place for an eye, I then drew the outline of two squid on either side, on the facing side the eye is revealed during the inspection animation, like it peaks at you.

I’ve given a hint of depth with surface normals - originally this was what caused me to leave the idea on the backburner so I could get up to speed with zBrush to sculpt the squid and bake out a normal map - but I failed miserably to get my head around how to do this, so instead I used substance painter and painted a rudimentary heightmap.
(sidenote: If anyone has a tutorial for a workflow on how to sculpt additional meshes in zBrush then bake a normal map onto the original csgo weapon meshes I’d appreciate it.)

I chose a blue and purple background gradient as this is under-represented for the P250 and is loosely sea related. To add some much needed contrast and integration between the subject matter and the background I surrounded the squid with brown and grey ‘ink’ in the form of swirls.

Let me know what you think!
