Maritime Republics

Description
****IRONMAN COMPATIBLE****

You can download this mod directly from here: https://www.nexusmods.com/crusaderkings2/mods/63/?

Changes every instance of "Merchant Republic" to "Maritime Republic"

"Maritime Republic" was more or less the historical title of these types of republics.

It's also generally accurate to whatever playstyle you choose, because you're always going to be a coastal republic as an MR no matter what; "Merchant" Republic on the other hand kind of implies that you're playing as a merchant instead of just the ruler of a (very corrupt lol) republic.

Also this mod changes the Merchant Republic government icon from a pot of gold, which I found to be rather patronizing, to a small sailboat which I feel more accurately reflects the nature of the MR government type.

This mod also includes proper localization for German, French, and Spanish.

Alternate no icon version (keeps the vanilla pot of gold instead of the sailboat):

This is a wonderful mod for me. May I know if I can get your permission to translate it to Chinese and spread it in some Chinese forums? :steamhappy:

This is one of those mod ideas that I wish Paradox would actually adopt into their game for the sake of proper historical interpretation, but maybe they just have "merchant republic" to more specify the trade aspect, and not as much the seafaring.

Well, Priyon, Venice was a merchant/maritime republic, and they were not "just a collection of squabbling merchants" and instead a collection of very cooperative merchants.
Anyway, good job, author.

I like this. The "merchant republic" part always bugged me, since many of CK2's "merchant" republics were actually proper aristocracies with organized governments, and not just a collection of squabbling merchants.

Maritime is indeed the proper and accurate title for them.
