Description
Vanilla shogun 2 has technology problem where in most, typical long/domination games no clan reaches the later tiers of development unless the player specifically stalls for it, since research bonuses are meagre (unless you capture philosophical tradition provinces) or go Christian. On top of that, the final tier of technologies takes a significant amount of time to research.

This mod seeks to address that by giving increased research bonuses to bushido (from the castle chain) and to way of chi (from the monastery/church chain). Research bonuses from the philosophical provincial chain are unchanged so that their relative importance is diminished (but the bonus is still very sizeable!)

On top of this, the research bonus from christian buildings is also increased so that they don't lose to the buddhists in relative terms.

Finally, the last tiers of technologies had their research times slightly reduced (between 7% and 14% to make them more attractive in relative terms)

Changes are as follows:

Buddhist Buildings:
Level 1: 5% way of chi research (from 3%)
Level 2: 10% way of chi research (from 5%)
Level 3: 15% way of chi research (from 10%)
Famous Temple: 25% way of chi research (from 15%)

Christian Buildings - Church Chain:
Level 1: 10% way of chi research (from 5%)
Level 2: 15% way of chi research (from 10%)
Level 3: 20% way of chi research (from 15%)
Cathedral: 33% way of chi research (from 25%)

Christian Buildings - Seminar Chain:
Level 2: 10% way of chi research (from 5%)
Level 3: 10% way of chi research (from 5%)
Level 4: 10% way of chi research (from 5%)

Ikko Buildings:
Level 1: 3% way of chi research (from 2%)
Level 2: 6% way of chi research (from 4%)
Level 3: 9% way of chi research (from 6%)
Shinshu Hoganji: 15% way of chi research (from 10%)

Castle Chain:
Level 1: 1% bushido research (from 0%)
Level 2: 2% bushido research (from 1%)
Level 3: 4% bushido research (from 2%)
Level 4: 6% bushido research (from 4%)
Level 5: 12% bushido research (from 10%)

Changes to Base Research Time:
Bushido:
Tier 3 Bow, Spear, Katana, Shih & Gunpowder: 19 (from 22)
5 Elements: 14 (from 15)

Way of Chi:
Traditional Building & Calligraphy: 14 (from 15)
Chorindo & Sumo Tournament: 16 (from 18)
Epic Architecture: 20 (from 22)
Neo Confucianism & Kinza Mint: 21 (from 24)

Hello Owl God. I don’t remember but if you download the data pack of this mod you can check it out for yourself in the PFM! It’s two tables at the most

Nice mod but i wanted to know which table you edited with the fpm to change these values?

Hey Roach!
Thanks for your kind words.
I haven't been playing Shogun lately so the most likely answer is that me working on Fots and Rots is unlikely in the short and medium term. I like the sengoku jidai campaign the most and by far, as well.

Still, none of my mods are too complex at all, they are very simple vanilla-ish flavored changes that I think anyone can emulate easily with the pack file manager and minor trial and error. I am a begginer modder myself.

Once again thanks, getting comments like these in my mods every once in a while is great.

Take care,

Bleu

Big fan of your mods for the base game! This one especially has allowed me to experience the joys of the late game that I had never really gotten to before I would normally complete the campaign. Have you considered making similar mods for FotS and RotS?

This is clearly harder than just remaining budhist. As such I think that the general idea that CA had was to somehow compensate this by making the subsequent research easier. And in that regard I agree entirely. Christian mode should be, in my opinion, an alternate way to play the game with a higher risk and reward not just HARD MODE, so further bonuses are in order.

Finally, I thought I had taken care of unneeded rows. I always checked for that in my mods but now that you mentioned it I recall there being a row with the agents available per building, so Ill take care of that.

Thanks so much for your input. Feel free to give more, and more input with my other mods :AngrySword:

Hey John. Thanks for the comments.

Clearly there are many valid approaches to solving this. I see that we agree in many of them. Others like to give bonuses to everything in castles. I like the current general format of castles giving bushido and temples giving chi.

I also agree with you regarding the last two rows. They take too long so I might mod that as well. Perhaps discounting their vanilla research time y 4 turns (they start at 22-24 IIRC)

I might add this to the mod.

One thing I disagree with is the christian vs budhist rate. Going christian means that you will have to
1. Go christian in the first place
2. Take an hefty honor hit, which means less order, generals revolting and a diplomatic penalty
3. Take an **extra** diplomatic hit of -40 with everyone
4. Spend extra turns converting your provinces from budhism, fighting low order, rebels PLUS enemies.
