Throes of Obedience

Description
My attempt at spicing up one of the coolest zones in Kenshi. All credit for the idea goes to noppy, whose Spanking Spider mod adds security spiders with arms attached.

DISCLAIMER

This is extremely rough and likely will be for some time. Expect janky animations, bad hitboxes, poor AI, potential conflicts, messy spawns, maybe even crashes (though I've experienced none). I will attempt to refine it according to feedback as best I'm able, but I am a complete amateur.

CURRENT PLANS

  • Give them the proper arm texture. If I try to use it now, it comes out a bit stretched, with some seams. The spider texture is a placeholder until I get around to learning how to fix that.
  • Rework/tune the idles and add new ones. In general I'd like to make the arms "at rest" for longer periods of time, possibly adding multiple versions with different resting poses to help them blend in better.
  • Switch from homeless to nest spawns in order to reduce clustering and how much they slide around (I can't seem to completely eliminate their ability to move).
  • Improve the attacks and add new ones. The major problems are getting the hitboxes right and keeping them from losing aggro mid-swing. The latter is especially difficult because of their massive range and long animations. I have toyed with making them more of a constant environmental hazard through spawning invisible goats to attract attacks, but other arms kept sliding all the way across the zone to gang up on them. Once I switch to nests, I may be able to tether them properly and go with that idea.
  • Correct any relations issues that are reported. I want them to be hostile to the player alone, because they aren't really meant to be attacked. If you see any Obedience spawns attacking them, let me know and I will patch it ASAP. That includes new enemies from other mods.
  • Release a separate mod to enhance the ambience. I'd appreciate any ideas for this, I've only messed around with fog so far.

LUXURY FEATURES

  • Improve the sound effects... AFAIK it's impossible to add new ones, sorry. Go beg Chris-sama to improve the FCS.
  • Add new variants such as the arm holding a head as shown in the trailer. I either need to use a proper ragdoll or a custom physics attachment for the light to work correctly, not sure. Probably a ways away.
  • Create a faction of Behemoth worshipping NPCs.
  • Make lore-friendly in the slightest.
  • Do anything in a reasonable amount of time.

Again, big shoutouts to noppy for his awesome mod.

I love that if you are fighting one with a crossbow and look away and look back, the arm starts to move. Great mod! I know some people asked why the behemoths would even be attacking people since they paid the price of their obedience... but millennia can do a lot to someone. Especially one that got betrayed like that.

After the war the behemoths lost their purpose
Man became afraid of the destructive capabilities of its own creations

The irony is that it was their blind obedience and unquestioning loyalty that walked them down into that pit, entirely unresisting

The price of obedience.

So, interesting mod interaction with Processor Units, they are possibly naturally aggressive towards the arms and are pretty good at dodging plus their ability to cause bleed

I'd definitely download a version of this mod that only has the twitching arm animations, because that makes Obedience even more creepy and unsettling. The arms attacking is a little bit silly, in my opinion.

Эта локация всегда застовляла чувствовать грусть и обиду за Бегемотов... А с этим модом можно и в депрессию впасть

I thought it's just a decorating moving arms but when I notice my mercenary group tries to attack it, oh my I'm shocked that this thing is super dangerous and this is why I got this mod into one of my favorites.

Definitely need a mod that just has them twitch

Is there version of this or a separate mod that just animates them? Feels pretty goofy for them to attack people they can’t see, plus why would they be attacking anyway? The whole point is they willingly went in…
