Iron Fireman T36 Snow Tractor

The Fireman Snow Cruiser got a Larger, three-man cab, and Was bought by the Army ns the T36 Snow Tractor. The mechanicals were similar ta the earlier two-man model: a six-cylinder, inline, L-head Dodge engine With 99 horsepower at rpm., and a New Procees four-speed transmission coupled by a Borg and Beck dige clutch. A roller chain from the transmission drove a Cletrac model MG planetary-type steering differential unit, which applied positive drive to each track at all times. This drive from differential to the rear track driving sprocket was also via roller chain. The track itself consisted of modified rubber conveyor belting with metal grousers bolted to the outside, and driving lugs bolted to the inside. The tracks were 24inch. wide, and the 7.500-pound T36 had a ground pressure of only 1.73 pounds per square inch. The trak frame assembly was improved over that of the earlier vehicle, and it used 16 caster-type wheels mounted in pivoting pairs along the bottom of each side of the frame.
