Dire Straights III

Description
During the Japanese-South Korean conflict, American ships raced towards the conflict zone in attempts to reduce tensions. This left the East China and South China Seas devoid of American ships. Taiwan sent additional ships to sea to ensure its security, but so did China.

Aggressive posture has been taken by the Chinese, and Taiwan is on edge. With the world captivated on the Sea of Japan, China will seize an opportunity.

This is the third mission in the "Dire Straights" Campaign.

Not sure if intended, but some of my A2A planes, specifically the F-16s, find themselves out of AMRAAMs after 1 sortie. Considering this is an airbase on the brink of war, shouldn't there be reloads avaliable? In any case, this is a fun scenario so far! I've adopted a "use it or lose it" mentality for the missile boats off the Taiwanese coast and it worked well so far, killing at least 1 of the enemy SAGs and taking chunks out of the others. My aircraft fire all their long range missiles then go hide out of range of the S-300s, preserving their lives. 1hr 30min in so far, so we'll see how the rest turns out!

I think it's great to have an op with a different take on the standard mission scenarios. Loss management is something all Commanders need to take into account. If you know you're in for a good kicking, curl up and keep your head covered.

@sculan You are correct, you are playing as the turkey in this scenario, however there are a few reasons for this.

1. This scenario is about management of losses, not dealing damage. Keeping planes on the ground to preserve them and conserve your forces.

2. This fits well into the campaign. The United States needs a reason to join the campaign. Taiwan needs to show they need support but that they can also contribute to the war effort.

3. It's accurate to the situation in the Taiwan Straight. China is overwhelmingly superior in the realm.

I understand that you may not enjoy this type of scenario as much, but I hope that you will play later missions in the campaign as they will be much more competitive.

Maybe anyone can give me a hint... what is the point of that scenario? Most of your forces get destroyed at start of the scenario by gazillions of enemy missiles? You can't even launch your planes because the SAMs from the Chinese mainland are destroying them while they are still starting from their base! The Sky Bow AD sites won't attack anything because targets are too low?

SSM strikes will almost never reach enemy ships because of the chinese air superiority and your own naval forces are a joke - Sea Chaparrel, really?

For me this scenario is some kind of one sided turkey shooting - but with the difference, that the player is the turkey. If the aim of the scenario is to show how utter useless trying to defend against such an overwhelming force - ok. But this is no fun for me.

The author put a lot of effort in it and it is a really nice design - but more like a Kobayashi Maru, because you can never win that. At least from my point of view...
