Era - 1970s / 1990s - WWWF/WWF

Spanning the eras between Bruno Sammartino's WWWF, to Hulk Hogan's WWF of the Golden Era to the late 1990s Attitude Era, George "The Animal" Steele was an outsized personality even within the world of professional wrestling.

A teacher away from the ring, and an outright barbarian within it, George Steele became known for his habit of biting turnbuckle pads open, for his green dyed tongue, his eloquent promos, or his incomprehensible grunts, depending on the era, and his hiruste body, aside from his bald head. Steele would function mostly as an antagonist in the WWWF days, but by the time the WWF entered its boom period, he would become a beloved fan favorite, feuding with the Macho Man Randy Savage as he sought after Savage's valet, Miss Elizabeth. Steele would also join the bizarre Oddities later on, a befitting role for such an off-kilter individual.
