BigBoy

Description
Originally named the Opal when put into service, crews began lovingly referring to this cargo vessel as BigBoy.

This is my first sub so it may not be 100% complete. Feel free to give suggestions in the comments.

I made BigBoy as a cargo ship due to the several games I've joined where the submarine is filled with dozens of unorganized metal containers in campaign. BigBoy has a very large cargo bay with 72 labelled containers so you can remember where you put things (A1-A18, B1-B18, etc). There is also a separate secure medical storage room.

Some things to know about the sub:
  • The shuttle battery in Command doesn't function as an actual battery, but when you adjust it's slider you adjust the charge rate of all the other batteries (not capacitors) on the sub.
  • If you're being told the junction boxes suddenly fried, you may notice the batteries at 100% charge. When the batteries reach their full charge after being set to a high charge rate, the reactor cannot auto adjust fast enough to the sudden decrease in grid load. This causes the junctions to burn out and potentially catch fire. Prevent this by reducing the charge rate gradually as the batteries approach 100%.
  • The cargo bays are filled with secure storage boxes but they aren't locked to any specific crew member, they are just one of the more compact storage options available so I went with those.
  • The armory, the brig, and the four secure storage boxes in command are locked. These can only be opened by the captain and security personnel.
  • The medical storage room, opposite the medbay, is locked and can only be opened by the captain, security personnel, and medical personnel.
  • The reactor has a fire suppression system and an auto shutdown system that should prevent most meltdowns. These only function if the wiring hasn't been tampered with.
  • BigBoy starts with items similar to the starting items in the Typhon. This includes a decent amount of crafting materials for extra fuel rods. The cargo bay starts with some items stored in the C1 and D1 boxes. The rest start empty.

Due to the reactor's safety features, the ballast tank separation, and auto closing ducts, BigBoy can be difficult to sink and easy to repair. I've labelled BigBoy as a beginner sub but keep in mind it does have blind spots not covered by weapons, so combat missions may be more difficult than normal.

Hi Mose,

Would like to inform you that the BigBoy has been voted for by our community to remain on our servers, which are the BT Public 24/7 servers . Your sub was part of the first 'unvoted' batch of submarines, added shortly to our servers after Steam release. Therefore, if you visited our servers, you may have seen your submarine on it for a while already.

Recently we held a voting to make sure all subs are accepted by the community. The BigBoy passed this and will remain on our servers!

Oh they also burn out if the batteries reach 100% charge. The moment they hit 100% charge, their charging load drops off the grid so the reactor fries everything. Watch the charge % displays and lower the charge rate slowly as they get closer to 100% filled. You can do all of this from the command room.

All of them are used except for the top left 4-5 I think. They should really only burn out when the captain drops the engine power from full to nothing very rapidly.

I really like this ship until i need to fix all those junction boxes. Why there is so many of them?

Sorry man, accusations were flying around like crazy and it was the first time I'd hosted. No hard feelings I hope. That server only lasted another 10-15 minutes after that anyway. I was mostly just testing out if the sub file transferred properly and everything.

I've only ever hosted a server once, sometime around 2-3 weeks ago. What was your in-game name?
