Mandelbrot Set Maker

Description
By Steve's Makerspace

You should watch the video to understand how this works:
https://youtu.be/y-tf0IJGueA

This build has been upgraded. The new build also does Julia Sets. That build can be found here:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1784584181

It takes a long time to generate an image, and the image is obviously very rough, but it works.

Steps:
1) Go to this site and explore the Mandelbrot to find something you want to make, but don't zoom in very far because it will take too long for the machine to recreate something deep. Also note that max iterations is set automatically, and if you lower the iterations (as you will with my machine) you'll get a less detailed image:
https://sciencedemos.org.uk/mandelbrot.php

2) Copy down the Left, Top, and Bottom numbers to the third decimal place (or more if you really want to go deeper).

3) On the machine, enter those numbers. For a negative number, every number block has to show as negative. In other words, -1.235 would be entered as -1 -2 -3 -5.

4) Select number of iterations. Expect 30 iterations to take 50 minutes to generate a full image! So only use this if you can leave your computer going and go do something else for a while. 60 iterations would take probably 100 minutes to complete.

5) On the pole on the platform, press the brown button to clear memory, then turn on the machine.

6) Come back later to see your creation. Take a screen shot!

Uses The Modpack

Hi MeowtheKitty, I can't remember. It was a good deal of time of course. Mostly I spent time trying to understand the math and how to explain it. I watched a lot of videos. The building part wasn't too bad since I've made some complicated builds before with screens.

Thanks for all the nice comments and moving me to the top of the workshop everyone! Be sure to check out the video that goes with it. If you like logic and patterns, check out my other workshop items and YouTube videos. Also, I'll be posting a newer model of this build in the next couple of days that allows you to do Julia sets too! Video to come.
