Hail Sabin! The Detroit native made his first appearance in New Japan since he and partner Alex Shelley challenged The Young Bucks for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on the second night of the 2016 Super J Cup. Sabin returned to take part in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors; it was not only his first year in the tournament, but his first taste of singles action in the company. Sabin has plenty of experience when it comes to junior-style singles wrestling since he’s a former eight-time Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion, but his placement in B Block proved difficult. The 18-year veteran had to contend with formidable opponents such as KUSHIDA, Hiromu Takahashi, Dragon Lee, and Marty Scurll. Sabin finished the tournament with six points (scoring victories over KUSHIDA, Scurll, and El Desperado) and failed to reach the finals.

Later in the year, Sabin was announced as KUSHIDA’s tag partner for the Super Jr. Tag League. With both wrestlers being friends with and separate tag partners for Alex Shelley, it was a natural fit. The duo, dubbed Time Machine (a portmanteau of Time-Splitters and Motor City Machine Guns), only managed to score six points in the league, thus leaving Sabin empty-handed once again.

Sabin also wrestled for New Japan in the United States. He competed at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September, as well as on the War of the Worlds and Global Wars tours that were co-promoted with Ring of Honor.
