Sporadicity was the theme of Davey Boy Smith Jr.’s 2017 and that trend continues with this year as well. Smith wrestled a total of 57 matches in 2018, the fewest of any Suzuki-gun member, and only competed on six tours throughout the entire year: Wrestle Kingdom, New Japan Cup, Sakura Genesis, Wrestling Hinokuni/Dontaku, Destruction, and World Tag League. Smith’s time was otherwise spent in promotions like World of Sport and MLW. In terms of any highlights in 2018, there were slim pickings. Smith and his Killer Elite Squad partner Lance Archer lost the IWGP Tag Team Championship to EVIL & SANADA at Wrestle Kingdom 13. He then lost in the first round of the 2018 New Japan Cup to Toru Yano in a crummy match. KES lost a rematch to EVIL & SANADA at Wrestling Hinokuni. They entered their fifth World Tag League at the end of the year and scored an impressive 18 points, but yet another loss to EVIL & SANADA kept them from reaching the finals. The rest of the year was spent in undercard tag matches. Overall it was a fairly lifeless 12 months for Davey Boy Smith Jr. this year, but his work in KES is always solid, so he can at least hang his hat on that.
