The year started on a sour note for one-half of Suzuki-gun’s Killer Elite Squad as Archer and partner Davey Boy Smith Jr. dropped the IWGP Tag Team Titles on the Wrestle Kingdom show. This was the second time (2014) a lengthy title reign from the duo was ended on January 4.

In prior years, Killer Elite Squad was able to dust themselves off and get back into the title picture but 2018 ended up being one of the duo’s most unproductive years. Other than a title shot at Wrestling Hinokuni in April, the team was largely absent from the IWGP Tag Title picture.

Archer and Smith scored a respectable 18 points in the World Tag League but were not one of the top two teams to make it to the tournament finals.

Archer was well-protected throughout the year with a +15 fall differential taking only two tag-team pinfall losses all year. 2018 saw Archer branch out of NJPW with more bookings across North America as well as creating a produce-show with K-DOJO in November (K-DOJO/Killer Elite Squad International Produce Just Tap Out).
