Tama Tonga was involved in a lot of ♥♥♥♥ in 2018. Tonga went out of his way throughout the year to remind people he was one of the original members of the now famous BULLET CLUB stable. When Cody and Kenny Omega fought for supremacy atop the BULLET CLUB Tonga, his brother Tanga Loa and Bad Luck Fale remained neutral, not favoring any one side. In the summer, we’d find out why as Tonga, Loa and their father Haku attacked Omega, The Young Bucks, Cody, Hangman Page, Marty Scurll, and, well, every other member of BULLET CLUB at G1 Special in San Francisco. Tonga would declare that this was the true BULLET CLUB. From that point forward, Tonga’s unit was referred to ass BULLET CLUB OG with the remaining members becoming Bullet Club elite.

Tonga would participate in his second-straight G1 Climax but would drag the event down considerably as he was more concerned with building cred for the BULLET CLUB OG unit as opposed to actually winning matches. This was a stark disconnect from the typical structure of the tournament which prides itself on intense battles as wrestlers jockey for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to main event a January 4 Tokyo Dome show.

A few months later, Tonga welcomed former CHAOS members “Switchblade” Jay White, Gedo and Jado into the BULLET CLUB and later declared White as the leader of the unit. This made the whole BULLET CLUB OG diversion seem just like that, a diversion and a waste.

Accolades wise, Tonga became a four-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion during the year and enter Wrestle Kingdom as the champions.
