In 2017, Dr. Wagner Jr. lost a Lucha de Apuestas bout against Psycho Clown, forced to remove his legendary mask and finally reveal his face to the public. While some luchadors are certainly better kept under the mask, this was not the case for Wagner, who has thrived without it.

As of late, Wagner has skirted the line between technico and rudo, feuding with L.A. Park, Jeff Jarrett and Blue Demon Jr. as well as teaming with his old rival, Psycho Clown, always willing to bite faces, rip masks, and draw blood, but doing so with the favor of the fans.
