For Automatic weapons it's just a finger pointing usually leaving a plenty of space around it for a clear view, for snipers they show a peace sign to help you with bullet drop on 200m the Shotgun (Dart and Buckshot) she shows how big the spread is on 50m helping you place your hit right for possible multi-kills.
