Description
It appears the FU team finally got around to solve the lag spikes issue with the implementation of a new system for research and unlocking of recipes. So if you are still experiencing lag spikes try updating to the latest version of FU and start a new game.

Have fun,
The Author

---------------------------------------------

This mod is a workaround meant to prevent lag spikes that occur when picking up frequently used crafting items in Frackin Universe. The idea is actually inspired by a feature already present in FU that will eventually be expanded.

!!! This will become obsolete when the new research system starts covering the same crafting recipes !!!
Also this isn't been maintained in any way. If it helps you, good. If it crashes your game, simply unsubscribe.
(it shouldn't break though as I imagine recipes will simply fade out of "learnBlueprintsOnPickup")

HOW IT WORKS

The recipes normally unlocked by picking up the affected items are instead moved to the "Research Papers" item. The research papers for each affected items can be crafted from the C menu after obtaining the first sample of the item itself.

Patched items:

Tungsten bar
Titanium bar
Durasteel bar
Refined Violium
Refined Ferozium
Refined Aegisalt
Zerchesium bar
Tritanium bar
Advanced alloy
Dense alloy
Irradium bar
Telebrium bar
Carbon plate
Icecrystal
Effigium bar
Powercore
Advanced circuit
Volcanic powder
Lunari crystals
Honed lunari
Prisilite ore
Cryonic extract
Static cell

Example: Unlocking tungsten recipes
1. Craft a tungsten bar at the furnace like usual.
2. Craft a piece of paper (at the furnace, 2nd tab).
3. Press C and locate the recipe for Research Paper Tungsten.
4. Craft it and use it like a reward bag.
5. You don't need to craft the research papers for tungsten ever again.

it's the rpg mod that causes the lag spikes when picking up exp and recipes.

Thank you for sharing @panzersnapdragon!

Checking back in to confirm after around 20 hours playing FU in its most recent update, having unsubscribed from this mod, at least on my machine there's no longer any lag on picking up any items. It seems like the way they reworked everything to use their new research system instead of unlocking recipes by looting items, it completely gets rid of the issue. Obviously any other mod that still unlocks recipes by looting items will contribute to the possibility of lagging when picking stuff up, so other mod others may consider a solution similar to this mods' if their mod adds a whole lot of new recipes.

FU's research system is implemented now, so HOPEFULLY none of this is an issue anymore. Gonna unsubscribe from this and start a fresh FU playthrough to try it out, if I don't report back assume the issues with lag from picking up items are resolved at least on my machine. Otherwise I'll be back to complain!

No need to apologize @Sparrows, I added that after replying to you to make it clearer for future readers. I should have done that months ago so my apologies to you friend.

Okay! Understandable. Sorry, I somehow missed [unmaintained] in title... And your theories were interesting to read, so no problem. Hope chucklefish (doubt) or FU authors will find a solution about those "offenders". Take a good care

Hi @Sparrows, unfortunately I'm not maintaining this any more and from the look of it FU itself doesn't seem to have come up with a solution either. I believe this to be a lost cause really, my best guess as developer is that the 'hangup' is caused by the fact that recipe unlocking was never meant to be used as massively as FU does and so the developers of the game never had a reason to optimize the underlying code. For all we know it might be extremely messy code that goes on a loop compiling and executing scripts for every recipe to unlock, even if you already have it. Maybe the data this relies on is ordered differently for everyone, like a random list, depending on the save file? Anyway, I'm just rambling now. I'm very sorry but I'm not going to expand this further because it would just bload the crafting menu.

Can you add Chromatic Dirt's recipe paper? It is "offender" for me, and digging it real pain in mass...

You're welcome @panzer. I'm glad to hear people still find it useful even if I don't play with Starbound any more.
@gMalmNeDs I'm sorry to hear that. I've only tested it against what I had installed at the time. It was more intended as a little help for the developers of FU than anything else and I'm not planning to go back to it.
