I have not seen how these look in years, and I remember there had been some updates on the vanilla buildings, so maybe it's not obsolete. I might check some day.
First of all, you can already use them without turning them into mods. If you activate "cheat mode" (press C+H+E), and then with the buildings tab open hold ctrl+B you can have access to the old buildings, churches and customs to build as any other.
If you want to turn them into mods, all you need to do is find the relevant game files (the 3d models and textures, etc, as are the files any other mod), and add them to the game as new items, with any changes in the design you fancy :)
