Ruoppaköngäs Rapids (Vanilla Map)

Description
Welcome to Ruoppaköngäs Rapids

Background:

I designed this map to make for some interesting gameplay. It’s vanilla and meant to be played with vanilla rules. While there are several good building areas to get a reasonable city going, it should be noted there is no level ground on this map. Also careful planning should be done, especially in the start square, all is not what it seems. Dried up lake beds, large rivers boulders, eroded deep mountain valleys, debris around the bridge pillars, large river delta, could not be produced by the tiny streams flowing through the landscape …consider yourselves warned!

Networking:
4 highway connections
4 railway connections
1 air route
2 shipping route (1 decorative, 1 useful …eventually)

Graphics:
The map looks rubbish using the Vanilla European, so a custom theme is a must, I chose Realistic European, but there will be other good choices. Edge of map fog should remain on, there are things out there that should remain hidden.

Enjoy

Wow, had to click as soon as I saw the name of the map. I wonder if there's Teno of Tuna there too?

Hi Haukkuva Hirvi. I fills me with joy to hear you've had to restart your game. I built the thing, I knew what to expect, but even I got nervous building a city not knowing when it was coming.

So... I was playing this with Real Time, just waiting for the flood. Night came and with realistic lut, I can't of course see anything. Minding my own business, morning comes and... the the water had run its course. Fuuuuuck!!!

Great map! Gonna start all over just to experience the water. Torilla tavataan.

Hi Bradjr. Surging water was a problem throughout the map making and I did mange to reduce it a vast amount using a variety of techniques, but couldn't get rid of it completely, nor did I intend to, although I stopped it from inundating roads and rail. You may need to spend some money on terrain works, or cheat and use some water spawn points to manage levels. When I played the game proper building a vanilla city, I had to raise the town a few metres in the start square near the highway off ramp, also digging out and widening a little through the narrows south of the start square to lower the lake, all part of the game play.

After play for quite a while, the water flow will not stabilize in the rivers but comes down in large waves covering the preexisting railways and roadways that you created. What am I doing wrong.

Hi BonBonB. No apology needed, I know how busy you are trying to produce your channel and these things happen and you did choose the right map to get the wrong theme on, the theme doesn't matter, it's about the game play. My graphics description had [past tense] poor wording, the vanilla theme does look rubbish, so a custom theme is the must, any suitable custom theme will do and doesn't have to be Realistic European like I chose, up to the individual which is their favourite.

Glad you enjoyed it and no doubt gave you something to talk about. I enjoyed creating it, although the water was a challenge, I do create a cane for my own back in that respect. For a change have been playing this map for the last week or so, I think the vanilla players will have fun with this one.

Thanks in advance for your review and as always, thanks for your channel!

Hey Wellington - a quick apology: Review is out on Monday. I completely forgot I had Theme Mixer active (was so busy looking over this genius map). Anyway, the review was recorded in the wrong theme, but still looks great. I've used the combo I use for Saint Catherine's point. The sand is a bit bolder than in Realistic European, and the mountains craggier, but overall its not too far from how it should have looked, which I guess is why I missed it - even after 7 hours of recording.

Still, top map, and very interesting concept too - perfect execultion!
