Description
Battleship turret, submarine engines, wall armor, moves on land.
This is my take on the infamous WWII German land cruiser project. With numerous variants to be found on the web and perhaps none could be considered canon, I decided to give myself some degree of design freedom and create my own version of the Ratte. Crazy as the project is, I tried to make it seem a little bit more reasonable while taking care of stock parts limitation.

In my alternative history story settings, they are deployed by the Afrikakorps in North Africa, acting as mobile stronghold and defending the Atlantic coastline from allied invasion. Although having naval gun firepower and maneuverability that ordinary strongholds don't have, they are still slow, bulky and easy-to-hit targets especially for enemy aircraft. Therefore, they need protection from Haunebu II flying discs providing close air support and air-to-air interception.

Pure stock, no mods, no DLCs. 435 parts, root part is the RoveMate in the hull.

Key Features
- 360deg rotating main turret using stock mechanism, see below in Design Notes
- Main guns muzzle effect and engines exhaust effect, see below in Design Notes
- All other turrets can be independently adjusted in SPH for photo purpose
- Acceptable stability for its size and part count (with autostrut and rigid attachment enabled)
- 2 x 28 cm SK C/34 naval guns
- 5 x 12.8 cm FlaK 40 anti-aircraft / anti-tank guns
- 8 x 2 cm MG 151/20 machine cannons

Design Notes
- This is NOT a full-size vehicle, but roughly 1:2 (otherwise the part count will go boom and not many PCs will be able to handle it). Therefore, showcasing full-size replicas closely with this vehicle may not be a good idea.
- It’s my first stock turret mechanism of this kind, glad that it worked at last. It’s strongly recommended to stage as soon as the craft loads to decouple the turret, because this mechanism seems to be a source of increasingly strong vibration before decoupling. After staging it would become much more stable.
- Staging also toggles on fuel cells and hidden rocket engines for visual effects. Use [ and ] to switch between hull and turret, set throttle to >0 for both of them to enable these effects.
- On turret, use Q E to rotate and press Abort action group (backspace) to repeatedly fire its main guns.
- Its maneuverability…is just as to be expected from such a super heavy giant. It runs even faster than it should be.

Wish you enjoy and happy LANDCRUISING!

I put it bluntly as a fun factor. I wasn't serious, I really like German WWII tanks actually and 'scarily' enough I also know 'Das Panzerlied' from memory. I'd say don't worry too much about the ethics behind your genuine fascination if it's just a game.

Yep, this thing would be bombed to sh*t in real world (assuming that it survived its own system reliability problems and gets enough fuel which was rather rare for the Germans late-war), that's why I give it the flying discs in my story setting for escort...Anti-air really doesn't do much,

I think it would be better to see this as a piece of human engineering, or German engineering, but not necessarily a piece of Nazi engineering. It's understandable to dislike war- or violence-related stuff in this game, but I think things from WWII Germany shouldn't have a special status compared with the many other weapons in KSP community. Ideology and engineering are two different things, and I don't think my craft pages have the tendency to represent or promote that ideology.

Please let me know if I'm really wrong about this, then I'll hide related craft pages as I did with my M4 rifle.
