Empty eyes of Khalida - Balefire eyes removal for Tomb Kings

Description
- Empty eyes of Khalida - what is? -
Enter Khalida - the undying Serpent Queen, the Chosen of Asaph, the bane of all Vampirekind.

Truly a tragic character, betrayed by a person she trusted the most, couldn't even find solace in death. Now fueled solely by her burning hate towards Neferata - her once beloved cousin - and all her ilk, she wages a crusade against every spawn of darkness that dares cross her path.
And as we well know from science of today, some fuels must be burned down to provide the energy required for such an exhausting endeavour, so that's precisely what we can observe in her otherwise lifeless, empty eye-sockets...

     ... Wait, what?!

If you also had this profound moment, you are already well aware what the purpose of the mod would be. So without further ado, let's talk the details. :)

- What does it do? -
This is a very simple vfx mod that just affects the balefire effect on Tomb Kings Lords eyes. If nothing else, it helps to tone the effect down, which, in my opinion already looks leagues better, as the fire effect that was placed outside of the skull model was entirely disabled.

Now a word of caution - as you might see in the screenshots for this mod, it doesn't always completely remove the blue fire effect. It is because all Tomb Kings Lords (curiously save for Khalida) have some other, underlying effect applied (Settra has some embers in his eyes, Arkhan has some blue fog inside his skull, etc.), that I was unable to root out. Khalida does not have this problem, so for her the blue fire effect would disappear completely from her eyes, bringing her way closer towards the look she has in the artworks depicting her.

I also wholeheartedly recommend using this mod in conjunction with Ghul's Ceramic Khalida facemask mod, as it helps it go even further towards that goal (the mod was in use in the screenshots representing Khalida).

Also, because it's a movie mod, the mod itself would barely ever require updates. I will - of course - update the mod file for every major update to the game - if nothing else, just to get rid of the "outdated" notification.

- Compatibility -
This mod should be compatible with everything, as long as it doesn't modify the vfx\wh2_dlc09_creature_tomb_eyes.xml file.

- Installation -
Nothing out of ordinary. Just subscribe to this mod, enable it in mod launcher and you should be all set.

- Installation - alternative
If, for some reason the mod does not work for you the regular way, please download this file[drive.google.com] and replace the @emptyeyes.pack file with it. Said file should be located in your Total War: Warhammer 2 workshop folder.

The file provided under this link is the original movie-type packfile, so replacing the version created by steam workshop should resolve the problem of this mod not functioning as it is supposed to.

- Thank you-s -
  • Shawmuscle
... For his invaluable assistance about wrapping my head around animations and vfx edits. Even if I still haven't got everything the way I wanted, at least I know now what to look for.
  • Ghul
... For his Ceramic Khalida facemask mod.
  • And thank you
... if you decide that it's worth a shot. It really means a world to me.

I might, though from what I've seen so far (granted didn't look particularily thorough), the eye vfx I removed here was strongly toned down, and repositioned slightly, so it's nowhere near as overwhelming - and I've found I don't mind it anymore in the form it is now.
But I'll see what I can do.

Will you make a WH3 version of this mod?

Exactly, passive area of effect, seen below coalt !! Thanks for answering and for your mod! A hug !

Alright, this mod is now up to date - or at least should be.

Sadly I couldn't upload anything from steam in offline mode, but as I said, it's somewhat lightweight upload so I don't mind much.

Now, about that coatl - do I understand correctly it has some kind of emanating aura around itself that you want removed, or you mean "AoE effect" as in the passive skill?

Hi - I haven't seen that one yet. Yesterday I had thunderstorms, and well, my router went to hell. I'm running on mobile data for a while, so I'm holding out with the DLC download (or actually getting steam into online mode) for a time my new router arives.
But as soon as I can update my game, I will take a look.

The same I'm afraid goes for the update of this mod. I might try to upload the update, keeping the steam offline (not sure how that will work out), as it's not a big upload, so it shouldn't drain my data plan. If not, I believe the mod would still work, even if outdated, as I don't think there were any changes to Tomb Kings vfx introduced with this patch.

Hi! How are you ? Could you make a mod that takes the AoE effect off the Coalt? Thanks a hug !

As for the "reduced variant" from this mod, honestly I dunno. As I said in the description, there is this "underlay" I wasn't able to root out to remove, so I wouldn't know where to look to edit it.
IEBGENER  [author] 22 May, 2021 @ 1:32am
(...) Granted, for Tomb Kings (all save for Khalida), there is also an underlay present in there, but again, considering the extensiveness of TK's eyefire effect, it should be barely noticeable.
There might be also problem with mounts - I remember when working on one Khatep project (suspended now due to the following), I couldn't get rid of the original effect from his eyes on his DJ (Casket of Souls) variant, and I couldn't find the right file to replace the reference in. Same I had with Settra, I managed to replace the VFX for his on-foot variant, for necrosphinx and chariot. I couldn't for the life of me find where that VFX is embedded for his horseman variant, and so the original effect was still present for this one mount option. I imagine it might be similar with Arkhan.
IEBGENER  [author] 22 May, 2021 @ 1:32am
I think it should be - especially for the vanilla eye effects, considering the extensiveness thereof. I haven't played much around it (some tests on Kroq-gar and Khatep and black auras), but I think it would only require making a copy of the vfx in question, adjusting RGB values and linking it in place of the original one for Arkhan. is it possible to make arkhans eyes purple?
