Though, there are two things that bothered me a bit:
1. I agree with @Duke Flapjack. Gravel is essential and the only place it can be found is along the shoreline. One must extend the shoreline a little to obtain gravel. I managed, but it just seems a bit odd that there isn't any gravel source available inland.
2. There appears to be a dusting of stone all over the map. Not enough for a gravel quarry, but enough to make it difficult to place farm fields. I'm guessing this is the point, but personally I just find it annoying.
