Corner LCD Information

Description
Shows information about blocks on LCD (no scripting required)

Why this Mod
I wanted to see more information from when looking at energy, production, etc blocks. I did not want to check lots of blocks using menu functions like "inventory", "control" or "production"...I want to see if a block needs attention nor if it is doing its job.

This mod brings two types of LCD
  • "LCD info": Build LCD at a functional block, the block has to be directly behind the LCD
  • "LCD remote": Build this LCD anywhere you like on the grid. Use the name of the LCD to identify function blocks that should be shown. If there is more than one block matching the name of the lcd when LCD will show each of then in a sequence. Any block (and any type) will be found starting with name of LCD, eg "AirVent Guestroom", "AirVent Cockpit", "AirVent Dining Room" will be found when LCD in named "AirVent" (not case sensitve)

Important: All blocks have to be on the same grid (ship or station), remote LCD will not scan any connected gids (I dont want to cause performance issues on servers).

Supported blocks

There will be two types of information, a general information and an individual information

A general information (red) is shown when the block is damaged or offline or (green) when online if this is the case, then no individual information is shown


individual information is different for each block depending on the nature of the block

Battery
  • green: stored power above 60%
  • yellow: stored power below 60%
  • red: empty
  • additional: If not empty the percentage of store power is shown

Reactor
  • red: input queue is empty
  • yellow: material to burn, but above 90% of maximum power
  • green: material to burn, below 90% of maximum power

Assembler, Refinery, Converter
  • green: working
  • yellow: idle
  • red: processing blocked (either no input material or output is full)
  • additional: shows "disassemble" when selected

Assembler, Refinary, ConverterGasGenerator (Oxygen, Hydrogen)
  • red: input queue is empty
  • green: works as it should do

GasTanks (Oxygen, Hydrogen)
  • green: stored gas 50%
  • yellow: stored gas 20%
  • red: empty

Conveyor Sorter
  • green: inventory is empty or below 20%(a sort should not contain stuff)
  • yellow: inventory is below 95%
  • red: inventory is full

Air Vents
  • red: room not pressurized
  • yellow: pressurizing but below 95%
  • green: room is pressurized

Container
  • red: inventory empty or inventory used more than 95%
  • yellow: inventory is more than 75%
  • green: inventory in use but below 75%

Doors
  • red: open
  • yellow: opening or closing
  • green: closed

Jump Drive
  • red: empty
  • yellow: charging
  • green: ready to jump

Thruster
  • red: near maximum thrust (>90%)
  • yellow: idle
  • green: normal thrust
  • Additional: shows override iformation when set

Things I am looking to....

...add support for more block types
...checkout interaction with modded blocks (if modded block are of same type like vanilla ones, they should work)

NOT on my todo list

...small LCD
...introduce any type of "scripting like" parameters (see "why this mod")

Test and Problem Reports

The mod was tested in single player and is now running our main dedicated server.

If you have any issues, please report in the bug section. Helpful is a short description of what happend and what was expected.

Could this be implemented as an app on the existing LCD blocks rather than adding a new LCD block to the game? It's a really cool feature but I wanna try to keep mod blocks on my config to a minimum and it kinda irks me that there's so much out there that could use that mechanism and doesn't.

Damned handy idea and better than trying to get a marker pen to right on the sides of your cargo crates etc. Another great idea, thank to you again.

I love this mod. Reduced PB spam by 20%, often because it just looks cooler. Would be extra good if it could handle long block names, but I know LCD text is tricky and sprite stuff has a performance hit. Regardless, this mod is a blessing. Thank you.

We have a self imposed 1PB per grid rule in our server. Having something like this as a mod instead of a script opens up SO many doors. Hope it works for modded blocks. Will find out tonight!

there are corner LCD in the game, if you build one of these the game tells you the ressources necessary. This mod re-uses these ingame blocks and just adds a display function, so you need exactly the same ressoucres as for the normal corner lcd
