Hughes H-1a Racer

Description
History:
The Hughes H-1a Racer was built by Hughes Aircraft in 1935 with the sole intent of setting a land speed record, which it did on September 13th, 1935 when it propelled Howard Hughes into the history books at 352.29 mph! Unfortunately, the record attempt ended rather unceremoniously in a beet field when Mr. Hughes ran out of fuel. The aircraft would later be rebuilt and refitted for a transcontinental speed record attempt from Los Angeles to New York. This would also prove successful for Howard Hughes when he smashed the previous record (set by himself) with a flight time of 7 hours, 28 minutes. The aircraft today resides in a place of honor at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

Stormworks H-1a:
I designed the aircraft to be as fast as possible, while still making it as economical as possible, all while trying not to stray far from the actual dimensions of the real aircraft. It's capable of attaining speeds over 260 mph, this makes it some cases faster then in-game jet aircraft! However, this comes at the cost of fuel economy and most importantly possible engine damage. Handling is best at high speeds, in order to maintain level flight at lower speeds I recommend use of the 'Alt' function to trim the aircraft

Specifications:
Maximum Speed: 352+ mph
Be sure engine temperature does not exceed 238 Fahrenheit or engine damage WILL occur
Range: 38.7 KM (at full throttle) / 169 KM (at 50% throttle)

Checklist:
  • Open the Fuel Cut-Off Valve
  • Use the Fuel Wobble Pump to attain a fuel pressure of 4.3 psi
  • Turn on the Battery
  • Turn on both Magnetos (Left and Right)
  • Turn on the Starter
  • Once the Engine is running the fuel pressure should rise to around 6 psi and Hydraulic Pressure should be between 6 -7 psi
  • Release the Parking Brake and use the "Toe"/ Wheel brakes to taxi to the runway.

Notes:
  • The aircraft does not have heaters
  • A parachute it stowed behind the pilot's seat
  • The Landing Gear are hydraulically powered and require the engine to be running to be operated
  • Shutting off one of the Magnetos will result in a slight loss of engine power
  • The Carburetor heater should be used when the ambient temperature is freezing. If your cold, then the engines cold, TURN ON THE HEATER FAST!

Have Fun!

Many thanks to Aterlgin for the Fuel Estimator! I gutted the controller and used the "code" I needed so don't be mad at him if it doesn't work.

UPDATE 22 MAR 2020:
- Massively improved handling
- Slight speed increase to 260+mph!

ENJOY!

UPDATE 09 DEC 2020:
- Begrudgingly added a Gyro Stabilizer to improve flight characteristics
- Carburetor Heat now effects engine performance slightly, throttling up will correct this problem

ENJOY!

UPDATE 5 MAY 2020:
- Enhanced stability slightly and made it so the throttle no longer has to be 'cracked' to have the engine run*.
*Note: To cut the engine either shutoff both Magnetos or close the Fuel Valve.

GoKart_MoZart, by "fuel toggle" I presume you mean the Wobble Pump. If so you can to either hold it in the up position or "pump" it several times until the Fuel Pressure reads 4.30 PSI. Hope that helps.
