Connecticut Valley Line (updates on hold for TP3)

Welcome to the Connecticut Valley Line!
After a year and a half in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait!

Gm_connvalley as its called is a replica of a real world railroad running parallel to the Connecticut River, recreated as faithfully and as source engine friendly as possible.

Features
  • 10-12 or so miles of track (mileposts are not accurate miles)
  • 5 train yards
  • 5 small towns
  • 1 large city
  • oil refinery
  • connection to Amtrak station at milepost 0
  • roundhouse with turntable
  • 4 mainline stations (not including Old Saybrook)
  • 2 small trackside stations
  • 3 riverside docks
  • 3 engine spawn sheds
  • 6 buildsheds
  • tunnel separating Middletown & Haddam (nonexistant in real life counterpart)
  • trees, everywhere

FAQ
Q - Where in the world is this place?
A - This railroad runs parallel to the Connecticut River, linking Old Saybrook's amtrak station to the state capital, Hartford, whilst also running through some historical towns along the way.

Q - Why are some mileposts closer together than others?
A - They're not accurate miles. They are simply placed as details adjacent to the real world line, and to give trains a better idea of how to report their location.

Q - Why is the river so shallow?
A - Construction of the map wouldn't let me dig deeper.

Q - There's no tunnel in the real world, its just a straight shot from Haddam to Middletown, so why is there one here?
A - To cut down on game resources. Seriously, any bigger, and the water render would break.

Q - I just googled the real line, and it goes all the way up to Hartford, why does this one stop in Middletown?
A - Same reason as above. Source engine limits wont allow it

Q - Why is the amtrak line just a T shape with dead ends?
A - I actually tried to make a loop to please the high speed rail savvies. But this proved to be unsuccessful for the same reason as above. Also, i felt it might take away from the main purpose of the map, the valley line. So in the end, i was better off cutting it down.

Q - Do Sligwolf trains work here?
A - Yes, tried but not trusted. Seriously though, build a locomotive from scratch!

Q - What about Metrostroi?
A - They work too, but i wouldn't recommend those eith-eith-eith-eith-eith {hl2.exe has stopped working}

Q - I'm seeing errors
A - Buy CSS & HL2E2, and download all the required addons listed to the right of the page

Q - I did all that, and i'm still seeing errors
A - Did i forget to list something? Post a picture of it so i can find out what it is.

Planned Updates
  • fixed areaportals, especially in middletown
  • more eyecandy
  • better foliage
  • better tunnel lighting
  • ambient SFX
  • night/snowy versions
  • TrakPak3 overhaul

@Policzanin TP3 is Realistic Standard Gauge, meaning it is the most scale-accurate gauge of all gmod gauges. PHX (the gauge you're used to, sligwolf, CBH...etc) is unrealistically big. I'm a modeller and modelling for PHX is hell on earth, because i either have to overscale my models or stretch them wide enough to fit onto the gauge.
PHX is terrible, TP3/RSG is something that should've always been the standard.

Really I wouldn't recommend TrakPack3 since the gauge is smaller than the loved TrakPack2. The gauge is kinda strange since it is smaller then standard and bigger than narrow gauge. Even if the tracks do look nicer, really it being a smaller gauge gives its downside. The updates you mentioned in the description did state that better foliage will arrive and ambient sounds and other. That is a good idea as the place has changed a lot and in Essex, next to the sheds, the empty lot is no longer there as apartments or houses where built on it. And back to the track situation, the track scale might throw off the accuracy of the real life line since the line is standard gauge / TrackPack2. And many BIY / (Build It Yourself) train packs are situated with TrackPack2's scale. TrackPack3 would be nice if it was the same scale as TrackPack2. But I'm still looking forward for that squeaky clean update that will eventually arrive.
