(actually not a racer i know, but i had fun building these)

[lore stuffs]hyper distortion accelerator:
this device contains a particle connector, that initiates an infitesimal time skip. while collecting the emerging energy it leads to the dilution of the actual acceleration process. after that comes a quick end in form of a quantum explosion. with this the whole process propels the ship forward, reaching it's top speed. (or the racer could just accelerate :P )
