Description
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier borne fighter bomber during World War II and the Korean War. When it entered service, it proved to be one of the most capable navy fighters, scoring an 11:1 kill ratio. One of its most notable features was its reverse gull wings, from which it could carry bombs and missiles. Almost all of the Corsairs service took place in the Pacific theatre, used against the Japanese, and later in Korea. Although a capable fighter, it was retired from US service in 1953. Over 12,000 Corsairs were built.
