The Thunderbirds are the United States Air Forces premier aerial demonstration squadron. Since 1953 the Thunderbirds have shown off the power and performance of the USAFs frontline fighters. Starting with the thunderous F-84g Thunderjet the team would later transition to the F-84F Thunderstreak marking the teams first swept wing aircraft. After a year of useage the team transitioned into the F-100C SuperSabre making the team the worlds first supersonic aerial demonstration squadron. the team would go on to use the F-100C until 1964 when they switched to the F-105 Thunderchief, but after just 6 shows the team switched to the F-100D SuperSabre due to an fatal incident. The team used the F-100D until 1968 when the transitioned to the F-4E Phantom II. The team used the F-4E until 1974 when they transitioned to the T-38 Talon due to an oil crisis! It took 1 F-4E the same amount of fuel that 5 T-38s could use to put on the show. The team used the T-38 until 1982 where they switched to the mighty F-16 Fighting Falcon because of a fatal incident known as the Thunderbird Diamond Crash. They continue to fly the F-16 today.
