Knightmare Defense Industries presents the updated Griffin II, one of its latest generation of warships. The new corvette is the result of a long program to provide a replacement to the older Griffin. The rocket firepower has been reduced, the fixed Gatling Guns removed, and the maneuvering thrust reduced. In their place, the ship now has more Hydrogen Tanks, Jump Drives, and forward thrust in a more PCU cost efficient design. The class is named for the Griffin, a mythological creature with the front of an eagle and the back of a Lion.

The primary propulsion is Hydrogen with some Ion Thruster as backups. Hydrogen is stored in 6 tanks and supplied by 4 O2/H2 Generators. Four Jump Drives allows for very long distance, deep space missions. The ship is armed with 6 Gatling Turrets, 6 Missile Turrets, 5 Interior Turrets for anti-personnel defense, and 6 forward facing Rocket Launchers. Power is supplied by several small reactors and a substantial battery backup system. The ship is mostly light armor, with heavy armor at the front and reinforced armor around critical components. There is a Survival Kit, with an Assembler and Basic Refinery for resupply and repair on mission.

The ship is built fully vanilla and survival ready, with an interior in the style of "The Expanse." I use a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. I used some of Whiplash141's scripts on the ship, including their braking script for "flip and burn" situations, and a few of their mods for taking the screenshots. The mods I used to assist with the screenshots came recommended by Taidyr, who makes some fantastic content as well. I used Darth Biomech's Milky Way Skybox mod as well. Links below. I got inspiration for this ship from ships shown in The Expanse RPG book, I highly recommend The Expanse's books and show.

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
This took a while to develop, mostly because my goal was to create a smaller ship than the Griffin with more thrust, and the prototypes tended to be bigger. Fortunately the Eridania helped me along with the design efficiency. In the end I closely based it off of the Griffin, with some inspiration from the Eridania. The new design should have much better efficiency. What really surprised me was the internal space at the top. With the original Griffin, the hull was more narrow, but it was expanded with the new design. In the end, I put some additional quarters there. It is a small ship after all, so it's best to make as much use of the space as possible, and a few design quirks works fine. Also I'm trying out a few recommended mods for getting good screenshots. Curious how well they've turned out, seem a bit dark to me, but very clean. Not much else to really say about it, but I'm glad to finally upload it. Been a busy week... weeks, something like that. Oh well. I hope you enjoy it!

If you have any questions or comments about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

@Gunslinger Thanks! They are inspired by the expanse, and the interiors are vertical like rockets.

@Papple your ships are awesome, they remind me of the expanse a bit, are they oriented like a rocket or like a ocean going ship. Either way really cool designs!

Its more built as a small warship, but with some modification it could work. The cargo capacity is a little limited, but if you traded out a hydro tank for a large cargo container, that will likely resolve that issue. The fuel capacity would still be pretty good, and with a thrust to mass ratio around 20m/s/s, you can probably load it up quite a bit.

Would you recommend this as a cargo transport ship and can it land on planets?

It does better than the original Griffin for sure. Which reminds me that I need to continue with survivability testing for my ships. Trying come up with good, consistent tests for that is difficult.

Thanks. I think it's stronger than the old Griffin, but still one of the lightest on my ships, just one layer of heavy armor iirc.
