The MÁV M61-series is a mainline diesel-electric locomotive series with a Co'Co' axle arrangement. Its nickname is "Nohab", from the name of the Swedish manufacturer, NOHAB. It's a cultic vehicle in the history of Hungarian transportation. MÁV only bought 20 units of the locomotive. It's based on the original plans of the American General Motors Electromotive Division company. This series has been in production since 1930 and it has seen continuous improvement since then. The original, dual cab, reduced axle weight locomotive with a Co-Co axle arrangement, called "ML2" manufactured under licence by Australian company Clyde since 1952, has been reworked by NOHAB's engineers for Northern European use, primarily for Danish, Finnish and Norwegian railway companies.
