Description
Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents a significant upgrade to the Dirty Ore, a high-capacity large-grid space miner that is designed and built without the use of subgrids (rotors and/or pistons) and without the use of DLC making it a perfect large-scale mining solution for survival games. The ship's design is optimized for building with a projector.

The Dirty Ore comes equipped with 25 drills in a 5x5 array and sorters to collect ore and ice and automatically dump waste stone. The ore is stored in five (5) small cargo containers and two (2) large cargo containers; the collective total capacity of this miner, with 1-1-1 realistic settings, exceeds 4,100 tons with all cargo spaces filled and all 25 drills filled! The empty mass is 600 tons. Also included is a gravity generator to minimize stone chips and dust that can obscure the mining process, and a jump drive that will carry the ship, when fully loaded, over 500 km. Power is supplied by five (5) small reactors and six (6) batteries. Wheel standoffs are integrated throughout the aft region of the ship to minimize collision (bumping) damage with asteroids that are being mined. A single gatling turret provides a modicum of defense. An integrated survival kit provides restoration of health in an emergency situation, and a remote control allows the ship to be controlled remotely.

PCUs: 8,249
Blocks: 242

Note: Remember to clear away stone by selecting the drills {1} and right-clicking your mouse as you sweep left-to-right and up-and-down while moving slowly forward to open a cavity large enough for the ship to pass through; large-grid drills do not exhibit the same AOE (area-of-effectiveness) as small-grid drills, i.e., the ability to clear an area significantly larger than the drill's diameter. Once you hit an ore deposit, left-clicking your mouse will collect ore.

NOTES FOR BUILDING WITH A PROJECTOR
As shown in the last picture, a single red block was intentionally added to be the location of the grid pivot to simplify the projection process; the grid pivot is the projector's anchor point. Once the shipbuilding process is completed, the red block must be removed.

The inconsistency in toughness of large-grid components compared to small-grid components is frustrating. I've run small-grid mining ships at 100 m/s into rock walls without sustaining any damage. Kids, don't try that with a large-grid miner!

Yeah I also fixed that in a mod. Most things are too fragile in vanilla across the board, in my opinion. And large grid H2 does not really do well for precision driving lol

It does gather ore quickly, that's for sure. The downside is that I've noticed that the large-grid components on this ship (especially conveyors) *seem* to be much more fragile than they used to be. I've found that if I bump the front of the ship too hard to the side (and it doesn't take much),l then I've got to repair a bunch of failed components. I don't find the same problem with my small-grid designs; hence, my main reason for mostly using small-grid miners.

In vanilla*

Thanks autocorrect, for making me insult myself.

I’m Vanilla, you’re right. I run efficient H2 thrusters, bigger drill radius, and Pt on Mars only. The H2 version of this is an absolute workhorse for me.

I should've offered that version, too. I figured people would be pretty far along in the game if they were going to build and use this. I rarely build it anymore because I prefer my small-grid miners.

Three years later....

I also made a H2 conversion of this, just so I could get it earlier. Getting enough Pt takes a while, depending on how you roll.

If that's what makes your boat float, that's OK with me.

i forgot to make an bp of it

i converted this one to hydro it whas little bigger but with enough trusters whas easy to fly full
