As vvtz said 5 years ago, my car wobbles a lot and takes damage without me going offroad or anything. On nurburgring I didn't have such issues because my race cars are much stiffer than my road ones. Guess I'll have to leave the self repair on for this one.
Best prerunner map here I come
The car wobbling issue is one that I noticed early on. You're right in that the size of the map seems to be directly related to the issue. Generally, the larger the map, the more the wobble becomes apparent.
I think you're also right in that the physics engine is having some trouble. I think with the larger maps, the size of the variables increase and the precision drops (though I don't know quite enough about coding to explain it properly). In any case it seems to be something we have to live with on larger maps for now.
Also, I might bring the pillar back... not sure yet :)
I've noticed one issue, which is probably not related to the map itself but rather to the game's engine, because I also noticed the same thing on Nordschleife map. I suppose the issue is caused by the size of the map. On this map and on Nordschleife, cars start wobbling a little bit, even when staying completely stationary, with no movement, a car shakes and wobbles as a freezing dog in a blizzard. Looks like for some reason there are internal forces and tensions in the car's frame that cause this wobbling. And it influences the car's handling too, when it is moving. Switching between 1KHz and 2KHz physics settings changes the amount of wobbling, so I suppose it has to do with the physics update rate, taking into account that in this game the mass and strength of the frame somehow depend on physics rate. Any thoughts on this?
Anyway, great job on the map's development, hope you continue your work!
I love doing lots of buildings, but since it creates lag, I won't do too many for this map. As such, I plan to do this in a more rural Mid-West US style, with a few small town dotting a few minor roads, with the main highway kind acting as an artery and branching off to feed the towns.
After driving around on it for a bit, and testing some other maps, I've decided that I will smooth out the terrain a bit. I want to be able to have some areas relatively smooth, and some bumpy, but the tools I am using don't allow it.
But, so far I have not had too many bug complaints, so I plan to add in some more roads, maybe a few tiny towns, and a few airports for the aircraft folk. I tried to add off-ramps to the freeway, but they turned out super laggy... I'm hoping to make them work though.
