this link is outdated. you should download the newest version and newest OI from the main article. It may be you setting up the team in a wrong way, but for me the tactic is working very well

I was having success with this tactic until the update hit yesterday. It now no longer works sadly.

that's unusual. the tactic usually works for a lot of people and myself over several seasons. what's your team? morale? training? how do you concede? why don't you score?
