Description
The Apocalypse Class Planetary Annihilator Dreadnought started as a Military Black Bag project, and holds many design records and firsts. It is the longest design period in the history of Mishima Heavy Industries, the most expensive, and in terms of both tonnage and destructive capability, the Apocalypse is the largest and deadliest ship class to have been put to space. In essence, the Apocalypse was designed around being able to mobilize the fearsome variable-focus Hyper Wave Buster Cannon which is capable of coring straight through an M-Class planet or wiping out entire armadas in a single volley. This capital weapon, which in and of itself is the size and tonnage of a dreadnought class vessel, makes up the entire forward bulk of the Apocalypse. The rest of the Apocalypse is devoted to complete and utter fleet devastation, with hundreds of ship-to-ship and ship-to-surface weapons bristling every tenable surface.

Apocalypse Dreadnoughts are extremely rare, with only the highest-tier space navies able to afford and maintain them. Furthermore as planet-killer vessels, the galactic jury is still out on whether the deployment and use of an Apocalypse is a potential war crime. Irregardless of the debate, the Apocalypse Planetary Annihilator Dreadnoughts still stalk the blackness of the void.

[NOTE: Hyper Wave Buster Cannon is merely a lore-building element and does not function in-game.]

"Let me describe to you what happened the last time an Apocalypse Class Planetary Annihilator was deployed to a warzone: The vessel ripped itself out of warp at a realspace point that was too close to its support craft, and the shockwave of its arrival back into realspace disabled 7 battlecruisers within the immediate vicinity, crippling life support on 2 of those battlecruisers, and outright destroying an escort cruiser! All friendlies! Next, the captain of the Apocalypse began charging the Hyper Wave Buster Cannon. While the firing trajectory was clear of allied vessels and the firing corridor clear all the way to the target planet below, the ambient energy accumulation capacitors and graviton displacement fields further knocked out power to more surrounding allied support vessels and one Agamemnon Class Dreadnought, the USS Argo. Unfortunately for the Argo, they were unable to restore life support in time and over half of their assault marine division on board died! When the bloody cannon finally fired, the shot blew the planet apart. Mission accomplished, yes, but hundreds of our own fighter pilots who were not properly warned over official channels in time did not have the opportunity to turn away from the firing and were subsequently blinded by the blast! Now, Madame Secretary of Defense and honored Council Members, you tell me, in this scenario I have just described, who was the g*dd*mn victor here?"

-sworn testimony of Admiral Leonard Harrington, Galactic Senate hearing 22901-4E, 'On the operational use of the Apocalypse Class Dreadnought'
