Burlington Northern NR 57

Description
Here's another American livery for the NR. I hate to blow my own trumpet, but I'm quite pleased with how this turned out.

The Burlington Northern was a railroad that operated in the USA from 1970 to 1996. It was formed through a merger of four previous companies - the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and the Great Northern, Northern Pacific and Portland and Seattle Railways. Although they were primarily a freight-hauling railroad, the BN also ran intercity passenger trains until Amtrak took over in May 1971. One of those routes is now Amtrak's Empire Builder service, which runs from Chicago, Illinois to Seattle, Washington.

Areas in which the Burlington Northern operated included the Pacific Northwest, Mid-West and Central United States. The inspiration for this reskin - the so-called 'Cascade Green' - was launched soon after the railroad itself in 1970. The livery is made up of black and green with white stripes on the front. The shade of green BN used resulted in the locomotives having a habit of camouflaging into the scenery, which caused a number of accidents at railway crossings. In 1984, the railroad began investigating a possible solution to the problem. This resulted in some engines orange and white stripes on the cab ends, which ruined the look of the engine for me.

In 1996, the Burlington Northern was merged with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to create the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railway. This company still operates today, albeit with the new name BNSF.
