Description
MCRN Eridania Class Destroyer H-III Variant

Length: 54 Blocks, 135 Meters.
Size: 4,225 Blocks. 45,400 PCU.
Dry Tonnage: 10,093 Tons.
Max Jump Range: 1,981 Km.

This ship is vanilla and survival ready. It does use DLC blocks for aesthetic improvements, but those blocks are entirely or almost entirely not structurally necessary. If you do encounter a major issue, please, let me know so I can resolve it.

Knightmare Industries presents the new Eridania H-III, a variant of the original design with the focus on survivability over speed. Though its hull is now primarily heavy armor, the Eridania retains decent speed and maneuverability. Additional maneuvering thrusters and Gyroscopes have been added to improve responsiveness during flight. While it's no longer one of the fastest KMI designs in general, it now holds the best speed for a heavy armor ship and is the smallest of the heavy armor hulls in the fleet. The class was named for the Eridania Quadrangle of Mars.

The Eridania's engines are mostly Hydrogen based, with some Ion Thrusters for backups. To increase flight endurance, the ship has 9 Hydrogen Tanks with 8 O2/H2 Generators. Power is provided by 2 Large Reactors and a substantial Battery backup system. The ship is equipped with 8 Jump Drives. The Eridania is armed with 16 Gatling Turrets, 16 Missile Turrets, 9 Interior Turrets, and 12 forward facing Rocket Launchers. The hull is mostly heavy armor, reinforced around critical areas. The ship is equipped with 1 Assembler, 1 Basic Refinery, a Medical Room and a Survival Kit. There are 5 Connectors with a small hangar for auxiliary craft.

There are several interior compartments, including the Bridge, Main Airlock Room, Medical Room, Galley, Crew Facilities and Quarters, Hangar, Machine Shop and Engineering.

The ship is built fully vanilla and survival ready, with an interior in the style of "The Expanse." I use a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. There are also a few other program and timer blocks if you need them. You may have noticed already, but the ship uses DLC blocks. Credit for the font used in the thumbnail goes to domain101 on reddit, who recreated the font from The Expanse. The mods I used to assist with the screenshots came recommended by Taidyr, who makes some fantastic content as well. Links below.

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
I really like this design. Enough to make a heavy armor version. This is not a direct conversion, and some parts of the armor are still light, though they are the less vulnerable sections. The ship weighs more, is slightly longer, half as fast, but now quite survivable. Kind of wanted to paint it in a different color, but I know most of you prefer the Martian orange and black to the KMI blue and grey. I hope this makes an excellent addition to your fleets.

If you have any questions or comments about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

Hm. That's unfortunate. The decks below the hangar are connected to each other iirc. I might take a look at that though, see if I can resolve the pressurization issue.

I've been tinkering with the lower decks - Hanger and below, and noticed I can't get the decks below the hanger to pressurize independent of the hanger - If the big door is open, those decks vent. The one just below is because of the use of blast doors and a connector, I think, but the floor below that one shouldn't be connected.

I really ought to fix the screenshots and thumbnail on this. Just way too dark.

Ah. Yeah, the Epstein drive is pretty powerful. From my own brief experiments, it fits relatively well and isn't too difficult to attach. And thanks again. This design is one of my person favorites from my fleet.

My mistake, I fudged my numbers. With the Epstein drive, the ship accelerates at 14 g, not 1.4 (0-100 in 7 seconds). The lighter version accelerates at ~29 g (0-100 in 3.47 seconds). As you say, despite some vital engine components which somewhat impeded progress, the engine fits perfectly and is wonderfully simple to mount. Splendid work.

Thanks! It is about the right size for the Epstein drive, but the specific engine design isn't as friendly to it as others. Some of my other ships, like the Siren, Kirin, and a few others all have the same base engine design, which is the exact size of the Epstein, making it very easy to mount it, albeit still with a bit of gutting.

After modding the ship with non-standard weaponry, I thought this ship may be the right size at last to integrate the Epstein drive mod... It fits, though the back half of the ship has to be gutted, and I got acceleration of ~1.3 g. Will do the same for the light version and see how fast it can go. Beautiful ship, man. Just beautiful.

Metric Tons.
doom_to_you 23 May, 2020 @ 3:12pm
Are those tons or tonnes?

Realized that the forward rockets weren't conveyered in either version of this ship... whoops.
