Perhaps nobody in professional wrestling has done as much in recent years to preserve the ties between the catch roots of the sport with its paralel evolution into mixed martial arts as Josh Barnett has.

A former UFC Heavyweight Champion, King of Pancrase, Pride FC standout, trained by expert grapplers, Erik Paulson and Billy Robinson, Barnett competed extensively in Japan, including New Japan Pro Wrestling and Antonio Inoki's Inoki Genome Federation, which made extensive use of MMA fighters and kickboxers.

In 2017, Barnett competed in Impact Wrestling, making an unsuccessful run at Bobby Lashley's title, and from 2019 onward, has teamed with Game Changer Wrestling to carry on the Bloodsport events, a series of pro wrestling programs fighting with a special ruleset, no ropes or pinfalls, and a focus on a shoot style approach.
