The Basics of Farming: Items and Masteries
Before reading this guide, I encourage you to take a brief look into the guide titled "Drop Rates Explained" by Botzu (this can be found in the Other Good Guides section at the bottom of this guide). The information present in Botsu's guide will help you better understand the nuances of masteries and items as they relate to drop rates. The TL;DR of their guide is the following:
  • Equipment/buffs/masteries (including company masteries) that influence drop rates will only take effect for the character that has them equipped. This means that the character with the mastery, equipment, or buff needs to be the character to put the enemy out of action for the increase drop rate to take effect.
  • All drop rate enhancing effects are calculated multiplicatively when determining your chances of getting a drop.
  • you are limit to one Item drop and one mastery drop per Troublemaker. However, you can get an additional item drop by selecting the additional difficulty setting "High-Risk, High-Return".
  • If the sum of every item's drop rate within a Troublemaker's drop table is greater than 100%, the game will multiply each individual drop rate by (100/(the sum of all drop rates)). This will give you a 100% chance of receiving an item drop for that Troublemaker, while also keeping the proportional chance of each drop intact.
  • Because of the above point, any effect that increases the drop rate of specific items based on rarity/item type can still useful should the player have a 100% chance of receiving an item drop.
  • If you increase the drop rates of all item after you already have 100% drop rate, then the drop rates won't be affected.

Its also worth noting that Masteries drops work similarly to items drops, however, you can only increase the rate at which masteries drop as a whole. Since there currently exists no way of increasing the individual drop chance of any specific mastery within a given drop table, this means that there is no point in achieving over 100% total drop rate for masteries.

Another important thing to know is that materials can have their drop amount increased, but all other items cannot. These types of bonuses are additive. Everything that can increase the number of materials dropped include the following:
  • [Mass Extraction] (Psi-stone)
  • [Legendary Laborer] (Materials)
  • [Hunter's Life] (Drops from Beasts)
  • [Disassemble Specialist] (Drops from Machines)
  • Demolisher Equipment Set (Parts)
  • Collector's Equipment Set (Materials)
  • Extractor's Equipment Set - refinement (Psi-stone)
  • Extractor's Equipment Set - large capacity (Psi-stone)
  • Extractor's Wrist guard (Psi-stone)
  • Gem Crafter's Equipment Set (Gems)
  • Tanner's Equipment Set (Skins and Scales)
  • Energy Extractors above common rarity (Psi-stone)
  • Arms Alchemy Spray (Materials from Equivalent Exchange)
Another Item to keep in mind is the Extractor's ring, which is the only item that is known to have a chance to increase the rarity of a material.

An example scenario of drop enhancements working in tandem: If I received a material drop from a beast that typically drops 1 of said material, and I have [Legendary laborer], Trainee Collector's Set, and [Hunter's Life] equipped, I would get 5 of that material - 1 from the base amount, 1 from [Legendary laborer], 1 from Collector's Set (rounded down), and 2 from [Hunter's Life].
Random Materials Build
The point of this build is to use exchange of equivalents to get as many random materials as possible and hope for elusive materials. Using this on Draki Nest will net you a lot of different materials. You will need to play normal or higher to spawn the queen draki, so the eggs will hatch. Materials can be exchanged for the same amount of a different type of material with the same rarity. Materials can be exchanged for higher rarity materials, and each increase in rarity decrease how much materials you get. 75% for 1 rarity level higher, 50% for 2, and 25% for 3 rarity levels higher (amount is rounded down). This happens about 5% of the time. Arms Alchemy Spray can increase the amount of materials you get from Equivalent Exchange.

Steps of Item Farming
  1. If you are farming a material, equip everything you can that increases the drop amount of that material. This will make it so you get the most materials per drop.

  2. Equip everything that increase the drop rate of the item you are going for, but not anything that increases the drop rate of every item your target enemy can drop. This will increase the chance of getting the item(s) you want, while minimizing the drop chance of other items.

  3. If the target enemy's total drop rate isn't 100% or higher, equip anything that increases the drop rate of everything that target drops, until you reach 100% or higher. This will further increase the drop chance of all items the target drops.

  4. Don't equip item drop rate effects that don't increase the drop rate of the item you are going for. This is a waste of slots and will likely lower the chance of getting the drop you want.

  5. Only equip item drop rate effects that increase the drop rates of all items of your target enemy if such effects are required to reach at least 100% total item drop chance, or if they are part of a set that increases the amount of the target material that is dropped. This will save you mastery slots and mastery points.

  6. Running High-Risk High-Reward will get you double the number of drops from enemies that are Elite, Rare, or Legendary. If you want to farm from non-boss enemies, you can set the difficulty to Cruel and that will cause all non-boss enemies to be elite. Otherwise, you can set it to the lowest difficulty that boss spawns on. Doubling the number of drops you get is huge, and you can really farm a lot of materials by pairing this with masteries and effects that increase materials per drop. Although, this will also increase the difficulty of enemies you will be fighting.

Equivalent Exchange
Equivalent Exchange is an ability that you can activate. While active it has a chance (25% base or 75% with Passion For Gold equipped) to change any item the Alchemist obtains into a similar item. There is also a 5% chance to exchange the item for a higher level item, and another 5% chance of exchanging the item for a higher rarity item. Equipment will otherwise be exchanged with a piece of equipment that has the same level and rarity, and it can only be a piece of equipment you have crafted or have complete a mission where it shows up in. Gear items don't have a level, so they only rely on the rarity. Materials will be exchanged at a 1:1 ratio with a different material of the same rarity, or when you exchange for a higher rarity item, you will get 25% less material for each rarity it was increased. (75% for 1 rarity higher, 50% for 2, and 25% for 3)
The known categories of items that can be exchanged are weapons, armor, accessories, potions, tools, and materials. Wrist Guards are considered armor and not accessories.

For example, if I craft an item that requires level 1 drug crafting, the crafted item also has max workmanship, crafting it gives me 20 workmanship, and there are 5 more level 1 drug crafting items that don't have max workmanship, then each of the 5 level 1 drug crafting items would get 4 workmanship.

Jammers are 200 Vil per destroyed one.
Thanks for the guide :)

Since most progress is saved when you abandon a mission, I would assume yes, but I have not tested that.

Question: Does the troublemaker progress increase if I beat an enemy unit and then abandon mission to retry?

Ok, I get it now. Thanks for the heads up. So better to just farm in challenge mode since I'll be able to make the masteries anyway after maxing the enemies' info.

If you want a certain mastery, you should probably turn off challenge mode. I suggest maxing information on enemies and collecting the valkyrie coin. This will unlock all of the masteries that they drop, and if they drop new masteries, you can unlock those, too. Challenge mode would probably be better for maxing information, and getting random masteries for crafting new masteries.

When farming for masteries, is it better to turn off challenge mode and use hard instead to have the chance of getting masteries I don't have? From what I read in the encyclopedia, challenge mode makes the enemies have random masteries based on what I already have only so seems better to farm in hard/cruel difficulty instead?

Yes, there are missions that have one of the rewards being the ability to craft one piece of a set. Each piece of each set has one of these mission. I highly suggest you get every single one of these, because these farming sets may be able to be used on more characters in the future.

Will there be an opportunity to get the Demolisher Set later? I accidentally sorted out the part.
