Basic Ordinary Origins

Description
Current Version 3.0.a (Released 5/13/25, Compatible with 4.0)

Ironman Compatible, but NOT Achievement Compatible

Basic Ordinary Origins adds in several new origins that are just that - basic and ordinary. They are simple origins meant to provide alternative "default" origins to Prosperous Unification, with starting bonuses that are similarly mundane and not drastic. They won’t change gameplay significantly, but will hopefully add flavor and variety to your games so not every nation starts with the “Prosperous Unification” origin. Though this isn’t meant to be perfectly balanced, keeping in line with the vanilla origins' lack of balance, none will ideally be overpowered.

This mod is compatible with virtually everything. It is ironman compatible, but NOT achievement compatible, as it changes your checksum.

Latest Update: Version 3.0.a (Released 5/13/25)

  • Changed Steampunk extra district from industrial district to city district, since industrial districts don't exist anymore
  • Fixed localization in some origins using old pop values

My Other Mods

Cybrxkhan’s Assortment of Namelists for Stellaris: Thousands of new names for leaders, spaceships, stars, and more! Fantasy, real-world inspired, and many others.
More AI Personalities: A mod that introduces tons of new AI personalities, adding more variety to the game.
No Ethics Spawn Bias: With this mini-mod, ethics of randomly generated AI empires are more evenly weighted to appear, so there’s less of a chance you’ll be surrounded by hostile empires as in vanilla.

@Krahe I can tone it down, yeah. Thanks for the suggestion!

Not sure if peacekeepers from War to End All Wars all that balanced. You get 1 per 25 pops and at start of game I've got 152, which grant some 3 stability and 7 happiness. Sure, it's a capital world, but still kind of a lot, especially when there'll be much more pops

@Dr. Quackers M.D. Doesn't sound familiar to me so that's probably another mod

does this add Convened by Providence

@Lazy Author: Thanks for heads up! Made a note to look into that when I get around to the next update.

Bug report, the merchant jobs added by the Silk road origin modifier aren't being filled by pops

Cool, thanks for making a great mod! Archaeology and Espionage are my favorite parts of Stellaris

@darthsawyer I've never been quite happy with the Antediluvian Knowledge origin's bonuses, but yeah I can think about some potential buff ideas. As for an espionage themed origin, not a bad idea. Maybe whenever I'm in the mood to mod a bit of Stellaris I can figure something out.

Any year 2200 bonus to Codebreaking is *huge*.

There aren't really any Espionage themed origins around, would you mind adding an origin that gives the Quantum Hacking technology and reduces Operation Difficulty by 2?
