History:
Everyone knows the legend of the lost world of Atlantis. But unlike this popular myth, there are written testimonials on the city of Helice that have helped archaeologists find their exact location. The city was located in Achaia, north of the Peloponnese. Knowing that there is already mention of Helix in the Iliad, the city would have participated in the Trojan War. In 373 BC; it was destroyed following a powerful earthquake and heavy floods. Although the search for its real location began in the early nineteenth century, the site was only found at the end of the twentieth century. In 2001, the ruins of the city were discovered in Achaia, and it was not until 2012, when a layer of silt and river sediments could be removed, that the discovery of Helix was confirmed.
